Affiliate Marketing things to Research

-You need to know where you are going to advertise someone else’s ad. For the rest of the guide we will be talking about on your own web site however there are other means out there.

-Research who you are advertising, you want them to have a good rep otherwise people using their link may not return to your site which could involves a potential loss in profits. You also need to make sure that they will pay you and how you will receive payment. Depending on who you are dealing with they may pay you by check, direct deposit, pay pal or other services. Work out what it is they pay you for. There is many things a company may pay you for some include pay per click where you get paid when someone clicks their advertisement, impressions you get paid based on how many thousands of people visited your page hosting their advert, you can get paid a percentage of the profit that company makes based on the traffic generated from you site or possibly another way. Find out how much they pay and compare it to others. Also research exactly what it is they are advertising you want the people coming to your site to be interested in the ads.

-Work out what sort of people would be coming to your site, you want to target the ads at them. (For example you would not want to be advertising a big petrol v8 on a site that informs people about the ozone layer, instead you could try something like solar panels.)

-Have a look at the ad or many you are thinking about using, you want the ad to attract attention but you do not want the ad to steal all your attention (for example an ad that is flashing rapidly between a vibrant red and green would defiantly attract attention however it could be hard to not look at and some people would consider it annoying.) Pop up ads, another big not to do people will find them annoying and will not return to your site. Also you do not want an ad that does not stand out on your page it is a waste of valuable space that could be filled with a more idea ad.

-Have a think about where you are going to place the ad. The perfect scenario would be a blank page full of ads but no one would go there because there is no content, the unwritten rule you get from this is do not over crowed your site people visit for the content not the ads. You want to place you ads in strategic positions. Think about places some ones eyes would commonly pass. On my site I have used 3 positions. Position 1 near the top of the page between the navigation bar and the page “article” heading this is because once someone has finished reading the post or decided the want to look at something different they need to move there eyes from my content to the navigation bar this means they get a glimpse of whatever I put there. Position 2 to the right of my content. I figure eyes have some what of an inertia effect when reading so as you are going through my content you catch glimpses of  position 2. Position 3 if someone has gained something from my “articles” the will continue to the bottom of the page looking for more, this gets them to look at my final ad position. Put yourself in the shoes of someone new to the site try and find away to make your ads seen but keep them subtle at the same time.

-Applying to advertise a company can be a little intimidating try and show you have an understanding on the stuff I have mentioned above, anything else related to advertising as well as a plan to grow if your current rate of traffic is low.

-Keep a record of the profits you make, it will come in handy to see what ads are succeeding and depending on your area and profits gained you may need to pay tax.
